Jonathan and Jane Deegan

 

They met at the Church of St. Charles Borromeo in the West End of London in 1991, were married in 1993 and have three children, Joe, Sophie and Bekki. They have been involved with Marriage Preparation and Enrichment work for the past eleven years and have been presenting the Retreat since the beginning.

Jonathan is qualified Architect currently working at Gatwick Airport as the Planning & Enviroment Lead. Jane is qualified Solicitor who gave up her career to be a full-time mum and housewife. She has since studied for an MA in Catholic Pastoral and Educational Studies with the Maryvale Institute and an MSc in Psychology with the Divine Mercy University USA. She now works as Head of Parish Catechetics for the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Martin and Anna-Marie Foley

 

They met at Youth 2000 in 2002 and married in January 2004, they now have five children; twins Caitie and Joseph plus, James, Ben and Mary-Mai. They, together with Jane and Jonathan became the first UK Presenters of the Retreat in 2006 (when it was then known as Celebrate Love). Martin works as the National Director of the Apostleship of the Sea and Anna-Marie is a doctor, trained as a GP, now working in a hospice.

Martin recalls his wedding day:

“Anna-Marie’s arrival took my breath away. She was early (a first!) and when I turned to the back of the church to see her walking up the aisle with her Dad I was overwhelmed by how beautiful she looked. Tears of joy welled up inside me”

Peter & Meilin Augustine

 

Peter & Meilin have been married 22 years and have two boys. They have been involved in marriage ministry for 19 years. They relocated to the UK from India in 2005 and they have been leading the Engage marriage preparation course in Ealing Abbey since 2007. Peter also has a Diploma in Marriage and Family Studies from Maryvale Institute.

Meilin works as Deputy Team Manager of the Looked After Children Team with Brent Council, and Peter is a Conveyancing Solicitor at Hubbard Pegman & Whitney. They are also coordinators and trainers for a Public Speaking and Presentation Skills Course for youngsters organized by the Charity, British Keralites Association.

Paulo and Emanuela Lins

 

They are originally from Recife, Brazil and they first met while doing a Computer Science degree at their local university. They began to date around the time of their graduation in 1999 and married in 2001. They then moved to Denmark until 2004, where they did further studies.

“In 2004 we moved to Wapping in London and absolutely fell in love with the community at St Patrick’s Parish. We have been active members of the parish, having helped with the pre-marriage preparation course for several years”.

David & Aba Shields

David and Aba met in University of Surrey in 1992, started dating in 1993, got engaged in 1997 and married at St Thomas More Church, Bramley-Surrey in 1998. They have 4 children- 3 daughters here and a son in heaven. Aba obtained a MA in Catholic Educational & Pastoral Studies – Marriage & Family from the Maryvale Institute and now works as the Marriage & Family Life project worker for the Portsmouth Diocese. David has worked in the Spacecraft/Satellite Manufacturing Industry for over 22 years and is currently working as an Operations Manager at Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. He recently completed a Certificate in Catechises in Marriage And Family at the Maryvale Institute.

Nigel & Rose Stokes

They met in their first teaching posts and married in 1983.  Having taken early retirement from roles as Head of Faculty and Deputy Head respectively, Nigel & Rose began running marriage preparation courses for Catholic parishes across Northamptonshire and are now UK co-ordinators for SmartLoving Engaged. Additionally, Nigel is an auditor for the Northampton Diocese Marriage Tribunal and Rose has a post-graduate psychodynamic counselling qualification, has lectured in counselling, and implemented the Diocesan Listening and Prayer Ministry for adults with personal problems. She is also RCIA catchiest in her pastoral area.

Deacon Andrew & Nicola Carter

Deacon Andrew and Nicola met at a University Christian Outreach winter retreat in January 1986. They married a year later and have been blessed with a daughter and four sons. There are now 6 grandchildren in the mix. In 2003 Andrew was ordained as a Permanent Deacon, and together they are the Marriage & Family Life Team Leaders for the Diocese of Portsmouth. Andrew also works as an Independent Financial Advisor whilst Nicola is involved in training and development for project managers.
